It’s Wimbledon time and the grass may be greener for many of the ladies players now that Serena is out of the competition. Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament around the world, dating back to 1877, and definitely my favorite of the Grand Slams. Even if you’re not into tennis, there are many things to “love-love” about Wimbledon. The traditional Pimm’s cup, tennis whites (I always enjoy seeing what Kate will wear), strawberries and cream, and the cute talented guys (Federer, Isner, and Murray)!
Let’s set the mood
Apparently Wimbledon had an official playlist last year curated by Shoot Music. You can stream the music here.
Otherwise, old Beatles records are a great option to get you in the mood for an English themed night!
Pour yourself a drink
Pimm’s cup is the official drink of Wimbledon and one of the quintessential summer drinks in London.
Here’s what you need for a traditional Pimm’s Cup:
2 oz. Pimm’s No. 1
4 oz. Lemonade (sprite should work too)
A few items of flair: Mint sprig, cucumber slice, strawberry slice and apple slice
A variation on the traditional cup is a Pimm’s Royale (substituting lemonade for champagne).
Let’s get cooking
Although this is probably not what you’d want to eat in your tennis whites, apparently 30,000 portions of fish and chips are consumed at Wimbledon. So serving up fish and chips seems like the obvious choice for dinner tonight! I’ve never tried to make this at home, but this recipe looks doable. Otherwise an order of take out fish and chips would certainly be the easiest route.
For dessert it’s strawberries and cream. Martha Stewart has an easy recipe here. Apparently the perfect strawberry to cream ratio is 70:30.
Lights, camera, action!
Tonight we’re watching Wimbledon! Dim the lights, pop the popcorn, and serve up one of my favorite Rom-Coms!
